Global dairy prices seem to have entered a sustained period of relative stability.

The latest Global Dairy Trade event on Tuesday concluded with the price index unchanged.

A graph of the changes in the price index in the past 10 years reveals that for the past two years price movements have been in a relatively tight band.

The average price on Tuesday was $US3136 a tonne.

The average price at the same time last year was $3339/tonne.

Auction prices revealed a range of falls and rises.

The whole milk powder index was up 0.1 per cent while the skim milk powder index was down 0.3 per cent.

The biggest gain was for the rennet casein index, up 8.0 per cent, while the biggest fall was for buttermilk powder index, down 5.9 per cent.
